The System in Operation
How does it work?
The system comprises 2 main elements: a control / cord box, which is fitted to the trailer within reach of the TIR cord ends; and an internal detector which is sinatlled inside the cargo compartment, ideally at the rear, but facing forwards to detect any human presence inside.
The system requires a nano-size SIM card, with Euro roaming, and ideally unlimited SMS messages. No data is used, and suitable SIMs can be obtained from all the major networks for as little as £5 per month.
A steel-cored TIR cord is required, which must be electrically intact.
The main box is connected to the trailer 24v supply, whcih is available on pins 1 & 4 of the 24S connector (green/white connector). It contains a rechargable battery, which will keep the system running for several hours if the supply is lost or cut.
It is highly recommended that the box is located in such a way that it will not be damaged by loading bays, careless FLT drivers, or other incidents.
When the units are fitted, a 4-core, 0.75mm2 ire is required between the control box and the internal detector. It is wired so that the pin connections match at both ends - ie: + to +, - to -, T to T, P to P.
The SIM card is fitted before power is applied, as per the photographs. The tab can then be pulled out which isolates the backup battery, and finally external power applied. From this point of, the system is ready for use.
